Materials: Whiteboard and marker; buzzer optional
1. Invite one student to the front and have them stand with their back to the board. Write or draw a secret word behind them, such as “cake.”
2. The student asks the class Yes/No questions to collect clues, for example: “Is it an animal?”, “Can I eat it?”, or “Is it sweet?” The class may answer only Yes or No.
3. The detective uses the answers to narrow down the possibilities and gets only three final guesses.
4. If all three guesses are wrong, the challenge ends and a new round begins.
🔥 Team Race Version
Divide the class into two teams and send one player from each team to the front. Both players face away from the board. They take turns asking Yes/No questions, and the first player to identify the word earns a point for their team.
💡 This version works best after students are comfortable with the basic Mystery Word game and common question patterns. Use vocabulary from the current lesson for an easy review.
