Materials: Letter tiles / letter cards / letter magnets
① Give each team 16 letter tilesEach team starts with 16 letter tiles. Place the remaining tiles face down in the middle to make a draw pile. You can also use letter cards or letter magnets!
② Look at your tiles and build a word 🔍Teams work together to make an English word with at least 3 letters. Each team may play only one word per turn.
③ Build a word and score points! When it’s your team’s turn, arrange the tiles to make the word, say it aloud, and give its meaning. If the word is correct, you earn points! Each letter is worth 1 point:▫️ CAT → 3 points▫️ FISH → 4 points▫️ APPLE → 5 pointsMove the used tiles to your scoring area, then draw the same number of new tiles so your team always has 16 tiles. For example, if you use 3 tiles to make CAT, draw 3 new tiles.
④ Can’t make a word? Swap a tile!If your team can’t make a word, discard one unwanted tile and draw a new one from the pile. Then your turn ends.
⑤ Time’s up—count the points! 🏆When time is up, count the letters in each team’s scoring area. The team with the highest total score wins!
💡 Teacher Tips
・Give each team about 10–20 seconds per turn. While another team is playing, students can quietly plan their next word.
・For beginners or the first time playing, let students look through their textbooks for words to make the spelling challenge easier.
