Materials: Double-sided cards: letter on one side, matching sound cue on the other
1. Make one double-sided card for each learned sound, with the letter on one side and its sound cue on the other.
2. Begin with one sound. Call either the letter or the sound; students find the correct card and hold up the matching side.
3. Add a second sound and practice it alone before mixing the two together.
4. Mix the prompts: letter → sound → another letter → another sound. Students must decide both WHICH card and WHICH side to show.
5. Gradually add more learned sounds. Once students are comfortable, move on to blending activities.
