Materials: Letter tiles or letter cards
① Prepare the letter tiles 🀄
Shuffle the letter tiles and place them face down in the middle to create a draw pile. You can play in teams or individually.
② Complete a challenge and draw a tile!
Whenever students complete a classroom challenge, they get to draw one random letter tile from the pile.
③ Collect three matching letters—Pong! ✨
Each letter tile is worth 1 point. When students collect three tiles with the same letter, they can shout “Pong!” and place the three tiles together. The matching set is worth 10 points!
For example:
▫️ A → 1 point
▫️ A + A → 2 points
▫️ A + A + A → 10 points!
Set completed triples aside. Don't count those tiles again as individual points.
④ Count the points! 🏆
At the end of class, add up the points from all completed sets and any leftover single tiles.
For example: 2 matching sets + 4 single tiles = 24 points.
The team or student with the highest score wins!
💡 Teacher Tip
Although letter tiles are usually used to build words, I recommend collecting matching letters instead of adding a spelling task. This game is meant to be a quick scoring activity during the lesson. If students have to stop and build words every time they earn a tile, it can slow down the class.
Keep it simple: complete a challenge → draw a tile → collect matching letters → score!
